Aer Lingus is running a flash Avios sale in which it's offering bonuses of up to 50% for Avios purchases made through 14 November (Monday). The price you'll pay per Avios will vary depending on how many Avios you buy and where your Aer Lingus Aer Club account is based but that doesn't take away from the fact that for some people, there could be a good deal here.

Aer Lingus allows customers to pay for cash fares using Avios and for the next 72 hours, the number of Avios that Aer Lingus will charge you has been cut by 50%. Ordinarily, these "Pay with Avios" deals aren't worth considering but with a 50% discount, things start to look interesting.

United Airlines is a prominent member of the Star Alliance so it will come as no shock to most readers that flights booked with United can be credited to loyalty programs such as KrisFlyer (Singapore Airlines), Miles & More (Lufthansa Group), and Aeroplan (Air Canada) as well as to United’s own MileagePlus program. It may, however, be a little surprising to find out that United Airlines flights can also be used to earn Avios – a major currency used by airlines in the oneworld alliance.

Because Aer Lingus is now part of IAG Group (which includes the likes of British Airways and Iberia) the airline uses Avios as its loyalty currency and there are a number of reasons why it can be very useful to know how to transfer Avios between Aer Lingus and the British Airways Executive Club (transfers can go in either direction).

Over the weekend, British Airways finally updated its booking engines to allow customers to book Aer Lingus awards through ba.com using Avios. Unfortunately, while the ability to see and book more awards on ba.com is always welcome, anyone booking Aer Lingus awards this way may end up paying considerably more than they should be.
